2. 1.2 million tickets have been sold for the Commonwealth Games beginning in Birmingham on July 28, the organisers have said, adding that the women’s cricket match between India and Pakistan has “really caught the interest” of the local public.
Women’s cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games, and India and Pakistan will be clashing at the Edgbaston on July 31.
3. *Hangzhou Asian Games, delayed due to COVID, rescheduled for September 2023* : The postponed Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8 2023 in Hangzhou, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced on Tuesday. The Games could not be hosted this year because of rising COVID-19 cases in China. The 19th Asian Games were originally planned to be held in Hangzhou from September 10-25 this year.
4. ENG vs SA: South Africa spoil Ben Stokes’ final ODI with 62-run win
Stokes, who announced he’s retiring from ODIs to ease his workload as test captain and for Twenty20s, bowled five wicketless overs for 44 runs before being dismissed for five. It was Stokes’ 105th ODI appearance and he left to a standing ovation. The Proteas recorded 333 for five as Van der Dussen, who hit his third ODI century, shared century stands with Janneman Malan (57) and Aiden Markram (77) after winning the toss at Riverside Ground in the opener of the three-match series. Van der Dussen’s previous ODI high was 129 not out against India in January.

5. 2022 World Athletics Championships : Britain’s Jake Wightman Wins 1500m Gold. Ingebrigtsen led at the bell for the final lap, but Wightman stuck with the pace and bolted with 200 metres to go, successfully holding off the Norwegian for victory in 3min 29.23sec. Ingebrigtsen took silver in 3:29.47, with Spaniard Mohamed Katir claiming bronze (3:29.90).
Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos Wins 400m Hurdles
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wins fifth world 100m title in Jamaican clean sweep. Fraser-Pryce had an electric start and led from gun to tape at Hayward Field, winning in a championship record of 10.67 seconds. Shericka Jackson took silver in a personal best of 10.73sec, with four-time Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah claiming bronze (10.81).
