3. PV Sindhu lost to the top seed and world number one Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in Women’s Singles Quarterfinal. Tai Tzu defeated Sindhu 21-17, 21-13 to enter the Semifinals.
4. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) named the men’s world number one Novak Djokovic as the 2021 ITF world champion for a record seventh time. Djokovic won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year, while losing at the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open final, finishing the year as world number one for a record seventh time.
5. Russian president Vladimir Putin has pledged to attend the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He becomes the first major western leader to indicate his attendance. His remarks came in a video call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
