ASIAN GAMES 2023 medal tally Updates
Indian contingent finishes campaign by living up to commitment of ‘Iss baar 100 paar’; records haul of 107 medals in Asian Games comprised of 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze. This outstanding feat surpassed India’s previous best of 70 medals at the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018.
This is the second time India has won more than 100 medals in any of the three major Games – the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Asian Games. They had won 101 medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Yesterday, On the last day of India’s medal action, Indian players won a total of 12 medals, with half of them being gold in sports events like kabaddi, badminton, hockey, and archery. Indian athletes and shooters were the show-stoppers of the Asian Games. Athletic brought India the most 29 medals. On the other hand, Indian shooters brought a total of 22 medals for the nation. Today, Indian athletes will be seen at the closing ceremony at 5:30 PM (IST) in the evening. Indian netminder P. R. Sreejesh will be the flag bearer for India.
(a) The hundredth medal for the country was won by the women’s Kabaddi team, who beat Taipei in a thrilling match while the women’s Hockey team clinched bronze against Japan. Prime Minister applauded the team on their historic win.
(b) In a historic debut at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the Indian men’s cricket team secured the gold medal in the T20 competition.
(C) The men’s kabaddi team gave a stunning performance, as they clinched the gold against Iran.
(d) The Indian Men’s and women’s Chess team bagged silver medal. In wrestling, Deepak Punia held silver in men’s 86kg freestyle category.
(e) Total, India won six gold medals, four silver and two bronze medals on the last day of the Asian Games.
( For Information : A 655-member Indian contingent is competing at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China. The 19th edition of the continental multisport event officially began on September 23 and will conclude on October 8.)
