Tunisia stun France but are eliminated from World Cup. France-born Wahbi Khazri scored the only goal of the game as Tunisia upset World Cup holders France 1-0 at the Education City Stadium, but the shock victory was not enough for them to join the defending champions in the last 16 of the tournament in Qatar.
Australia 1-0 Denmark
Australia dumped Denmark out of the World Cup after Mathew Leckie’s strike earned a 1-0 victory and qualification to the last 16 for the first time since 2006. Australia join holders France in the last 16!. The Socceroos will meet the winners of Group C Argentina.
Mexico 2-1 Saudi Arabia
Mexico exited the World Cup in dramatic fashion, missing out on a place in the last 16 to Poland on goal difference, despite beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 on Wednesday. For Mexico, it is the first time they will not feature in the World Cup knockout stage since 1990
Argentina 2-0 Poland
Lionel Messi missed out on a penalty but Argentina still advanced to the last 16 of the World Cup as Group C winners after a 2-0 victory over Poland on Wednesday. Midfielder Alexis MacAllister put Argentina ahead straight after the break with a low first-time shot after a flowing passing move, while Julian Alvarez shot past Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the 67th minute to make it 2-0.
2. The third and final one day international between India and New Zealand was called off due to relentless rain at the Hagley Oval, in Christchurch yesterday as the hosts won the three-match series 1-0.
3. Indian men’s hockey team beat Australia in the 3rd Test at the Mate Stadium, Adelaide yesterday after facing two successive defeats. India won the match by 4 & 3 goals.The 4th match of the series will be played on Saturday.
4. Avani Lekhara, who won two medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, was recognized as the Para Sports Person of the Year.
