As ever, rain break’s unheralded heroes — the ground staff — were on their toes, slaving away to make the pitch dry and ready for a smooth return whenever opportunity arose. The big covers and super shoppers were used over and over again as soon as the rain eased off.

Following several checks and some slight improvement in weather, the authorities declared a rescheduled starting time with fewer overs. The match eventually commenced under slightly wet but playable weather, much to the relief of fans and players alike.
