Legendary Indian Sprinter Milkha Singh Passes Away

Legendary Indian Sprinter, Milkha Singh passed away at the age of 91 on Friday, 18th June of complication due to coronavirus disease ( covid-19).
Milkha finished fourth in the 400 metre final at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
The legendary athlete was a four-time Asian Games gold medallist and 1958 Commonwealth Games champion but his greatest performance remains the fourth-place finish in the 400m final of the 1960 Rome Olympics.

He also represented India in the 1956 and 1964 Olympics and was bestowed with the Padma Shri in 1959.

Milkha’s 85-year-old wife, Nirmal Kaur, who had also been infected by the virus, passed away at a private hospital in Mohali on 13th June.

Milkha was admitted to PGIMER on 3 June after his oxygen levels dipped at home following treatment at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali for a week.

Milkha Singh on Friday after developing complications, including fever and dropping of oxygen saturation level, following a bout with COVID-19, in the Intensive Care Unit of the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh.

However, due to post- Covid complications, he was shifted out of Covid Hospital to medical ICU.But despite best of the efforts by the medical team, Milkha Singh could not be retrieved from his critical condition and after a brave fight, he left for his heavenly abode at 11.30 pm on 18th June 2021at PGIMER.

Milkha, popularly known as ‘Flying Sikh’, one of the most decorated sporting icon & inspiration for generations to come will be remembered for his immense contribution and exceptional accomplishments.
