TOKYO, July 31: Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur expressed confidence that she could bid fair for an Olympic Games medal after securing automatic qualification for the final with a 64.00m throw on Saturday.
“I want to repay AFI and SAI with a medal on Monday. They have left no stone unturned for my training, competition. After the Olympics, I want to win a medal in World Championships (2022) and gold in Asian Games,” Kamalpreet Kaur said.
She said but for the support of the Athletics Federation of India and Sports Authority of India she would not have reached this stage.
“AFI arranged competitions before the Olympics and supported me in every way, including the mental aspect. SAI helped me financially (through TOPS) for my training, etc,” she said.
Kamalpreet Kaur was one of the only two throwers who breached the 64m mark laid down for automatic qualification for the final. The seasoned Seema Antil, running a fever on Friday night, missed out on the final after being 16th with a best throw of 60.57m.
