Punjab ends their losing streak by defeating Mumbai at Chidambaram Stadium by concealing a 9 wicket victory on Friday. After repeted scrutiny face by the Punjab skipper, it was about time he proved his grit. Rahul rose on the situation and proved his efficacy on the field in style.
All the odds and evens were in Punjab’s favour. Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl first. The bowlers bowled the ideal length and pace and had MI fall through thr cracks at 131/5.
Rahul went at the score in full vigour, got himself a handsome 60* off of 52 deliveries.
Punjab openers Rahul & Mayank put up a show adding 53 off of the powerplay in style. MI then got to Mayank and dismissed him for a 20- ball 25. Rahul was as aggressive as he could get and smashed Krunal Pandya anf Jasprit Bumrah with a couple of fours. Gayle joined the skipper and paced up with ones and twos initially. After settling in he went after the MI bowlers with 2 consecutive fours and a lightining six off Jayant Yadav.
The duo were unbreakable and brought up their 79 runs partnership, thus ensuring that Punjab catches up with the total smoothly with 14 balls still left to spare.
MI struggle in the first innings at pitch as the Punjab bowlers held by their edge with every delivery possible. Rahul had his bag of best bowlers saved for the last 4 overs. He made use of Maohammed Shami (2/21), Ravi Bishnoi(2/21) and Arshdeep Singh (1/28) to uprrot MI’s final overs runs probablity in tight check.
Bishnoi broke the 79 run partneship to scal the third wicket by dismissing Yadav. Rohit joned Ydav in the 18th over at the hands off Fabien Allen. Pandya brothers fell through the cracks and it was Keiron Pollard managed who was able to add 16 runs. Rohit’s hard hitting and Suryakumar Yadav’s form just wasn’t enough for Mumbai Indian’s for the day.
