Swimming events began from 24th July at Tokyo Olympics and now it’s time to see who might win medals in the 35 swimming events- three more than in 2016, with the debut of the women’s 1500 freestyle, men’s 800 freestyle, and the mixed 4×100 medley relay.
The Indian swimmers will be in action from second day onwards at Tokyo. Indian swimmers are not medal prospect at tokyo Olympics but for the very first time two of the Indian swimmers, Sajan Prakash & Srihari Natraj achieved direct entry at Olympics which is a milestone in Indian swimming.
Maana Patel– 25-07-2021- 100mtrs backstroke, Heat-1, Session-3- Event time- 3.32pm
Maana Patel, India’s best performance holder in all back stroke events. She is the only women swimmer on wild card/ Universality quota entry. Maana will swim her pet event of 100M backstroke on 25th July at Tokyo Aquatics Centre. She will be seen in action Women’s 100m Backstroke – Heat-1. 43 swimmers entry in 100m backstroke event at Olympics.
Based on selected swimmers timings on FINA website & Maana’s personal best time 1.03.77, she stands on 40th position out of 43 swimmers at Tokyo.
Srihari Natraj – 25-07-2021- 100M backstroke, Heat-3, Session-3- Event time- 4.26pm
Srihari Natraj is India’s best performance holder in all back stroke events and is the second Indian to qualify as direct entry (A-timings) with his personal best of 53.77 in 100M back stroke for Tokyo Olympics. Srihari will be seen in action in heat 3 of this event.
Based on selected swimmers timing on FINA website & Srihari personal best time 53.77, he stands on 27th position out of 41 swimmers at Tokyo.
Sajan Prakash –
26-07-2021- 200M. Butterfly, Heat-2, Session-6, Event time-3.50pm
29-07-2021 -100M Butterfly, Heat-2- session-11, Event time-4.15pm
Sajan Prakash is India best performance holder in butterfly events. He is the first ever Indian swimmer to qualify (A- timings) direct entry to Olympics with his personal best 1.56.38 for Tokyo Olympics.
Sajan will be seen in action in heat -2 of this event.
Based on selected swimmers timing on FINA website & Sajan personal best 1.56.38, he stands on 25th Position out of 37 swimmers in 200 M butterfly event.
Sajan will also be in action in 100M on 29th July at 4.15pm in heat-2, with “B” qualifying time of 53.27. He stands on 50th position out of 59 swimmers in 100M butterfly event.
