Delhi: India ended with a total of 219/6 in the third ongoing T20I against South Africa at Centurion, largely thanks to a sensational knock from Tilak Varma. The young batter clocked a blistering 100 off 53 balls, a maiden T20I hundred. His innings consisted of a few boundaries and sixes, turning the tables for India, who were staring at a somewhat jumpy start after early wickets.
Misfortune in the start
The innings of India began with a misfortune as skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson both got lost cheaply. However, Tilak Varma, who came in very early, and Abhishek Sharma (50) saved the game for India by just stabilizing it. It was a crucial partnership that brought the game to a competitive level as it got tilting once Tilak accelerated significantly after the first few overs and finished with a ton.
Bowling suffering for South Africa
South Africa’s bowling was struggling and Gerald Coetzee and Keshav Maharaj went about like it didn’t matter much to keep the Indian batsmen in check, especially during the later overs. Some resistance was provided but could not stop the South African attack from losing steam as India ended their innings at 219/6, which set up a thrilling chase for the Proteas.
One highlight was Tilak, showing aggressive batting ability along with one who could handle pressure very well. With these innings, he has well and truly set himself as a definite player to look out for in coming years. India will now look to defend the total in the remaining half as South Africa prepare for a chase.
