Saachi Baat Special
Maheshwari Chauhan came so near and remained yet so far as she shot below her best in the final series and failed to make the skeet final at the Paris Olympics. Going into the final series, the Indian needed a score of around 24, but dropped early birds. There was no excuse but she had put in her best effort. Afterwards, Maheshwari was surrounded by Indian fans and she was a bit upset but her coach consoled her.
Making the qualification grade for the Paris Olympics just three months before the Summer Games, Maheshwari, an ex student from LSR College had shot well in two days. This is her first Olympics and pressure was high. Unlike the male shooters in shotgun, Maheshwari was confident of her chances till the last round as well. Quality of shooters in fray was top class and the ranges were windy.
Maheswari missing the final is sad news but she has worked hard for over 12 years, on her own efforts. She has spent money from own resources and the family has supported her. This performance should boost her for another attempt at Olympic glory in 2028 Los Angeles as she can reboot.
For the record, this has been Maheshwari’s best string of performances in the over a decade. She is enjoying her shooting and has the potential to prepare for the next Olympic cycle.
