13th December 2024: Haryana Steelers have enjoyed a near-perfect season in the ongoing edition of Pro Kabaddi League. With 15 wins in 19 games, the JSW Sports-owned franchise sits on top of the table and were the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The team’s success can be credited to the management’s tremendous scouting efforts to build a squad with an ideal blend of youth and experience.
The raiding duo of Vinay, and Shivam Patare, have been on a dominant run, providing an attacking flair to the team. Both the raiders have earned over 100 points, and are among the top 10 raiders in terms of points this season. Meanwhile, skipper Jaideep Dahiya and Mohammadreza Shadloui have also been in top form, forming an unbreachable wall, making it difficult for the opposition teams to break through.
The Iranian international Shadloui also showcased his nature as a true allrounder, making an impact in the raiding department as well. A look at statistics further highlights Steelers’ dominance. Meanwhile, Rahul Sethpal, who was the breakout star for Steelers last season, continued his dominant run this year, with a whopping 59 percent successful tackle rate.
With 705 total team points so far, Haryana is on top, scoring an average of 37.11 in each match, the best among all franchises. Steelers also have had 215 tackles this season, the highest among all the teams.
Now pegged as the favourites for the title, Steelers have the opportunity to rest their key players and test out the bench strength, with three games left to the playoffs. Ahead of their next encounter, Head Coach Manpreet Singh expressed gratitude to JSW Sports for their constant support.
“In India, when it comes to sports, it is JSW. Starting from Javelin to wrestling, JSW has given so many stars. Neeraj Chopra has been given to India by JSW. In India, the family that is serving the sports is the JSW and Parth Jindal. The Jindal family has a huge role in sports. Kabaddi is a small sport but they love the sport, the Jindal family. We can never repay their debts. You go to Bellary in Karnataka, and you will see that starting from 7 years old to 20 year old athletes are getting trained for multiple sports at IIS. They are preparing young athletes for the Olympic level to develop more athletes such as Neeraj Chopra,” he said.
Jaideep echoed similar sentiments and said, “The JSW has helped a lot. When I was injured, JSW helped me a lot. They helped me recover quickly and I am able to compete. The more I say, it would still be incomplete. They have loved kabaddi so much and I don’t think there is anyone who has supported us more than them.”
Steelers will next face off against Dabang Delhi K.C. on Saturday, December 14th at Badminton Hall in Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune.
