Hyderabad, 27th February 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, Hockey India today announced Adoptrees as the official Sustainability Partner for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Hyderabad, Telangana, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from 8 to 14 March 2026.
As part of this unique green initiative, Adoptrees will plant 50 trees for every penalty corner earned during the tournament and 100 trees for every goal scored, directly linking on-field action with meaningful environmental impact. The trees will be planted across Telangana, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, contributing to ecological restoration and expanding green cover in diverse regions of the country. The initiative aims to create a lasting ecological legacy while promoting awareness about sustainability among athletes, fans, and communities.
Co-founded by humanitarian Dr. Rohith Reddy, Mr. K.Chishi, and Ritika Saha, Adoptrees emerged from a vision of compassion and responsibility towards both people and the planet. Today, Adoptrees brings together individuals across generations — from young changemakers striving to heal the world to elders seeking to give back — united by a shared commitment to restoring green cover.
Guided by its vision “to create a world where planting trees becomes as natural as breathing,” Adoptrees encourages individuals and organisations to take ownership of environmental responsibility by creating and sustaining green spaces.
Talking about the one-of-a-kind partnership, Dr. Rohith Reddy said, “Sport has the unique power to inspire and influence millions, transcending boundaries and bringing people together for a common purpose. By connecting every moment of achievement on the field with tree plantation, we are transforming sporting excellence into meaningful environmental action. Each penalty corner and every goal will now contribute to restoring nature, creating a lasting legacy that goes beyond the tournament itself. We are proud to partner with Hockey India in this initiative and remain committed to building a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.”
The partnership also aligns with the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) global sustainability campaign, “Give Back to Forest,” championed by FIH President Tayyab Ikram. The initiative seeks to combat climate change by planting trees to compensate for wood historically used in hockey sticks and to offset the sport’s carbon footprint. The campaign has already resulted in thousands of trees being planted across countries including India, China, Oman, Poland, South Africa, and Uruguay, reinforcing hockey’s commitment to sustainability both on and off the field.
Meanwhile, sharing his thoughts on the partnership, Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey said, “Hockey has always stood for teamwork, responsibility, and respect — values that extend beyond the field. We are delighted to welcome Adoptrees as the Sustainability Partner for the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 Hyderabad, Telangana. By linking every penalty corner and goal to tree plantation, this initiative transforms sporting achievements into a lasting environmental legacy. It perfectly reflects hockey’s growing commitment to sustainability and aligns strongly with FIH’s ‘Give Back to Forest’ campaign.”
Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh added, “The partnership with Adoptrees is a meaningful step towards integrating environmental consciousness into major sporting events in India. The World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad will not only showcase world-class hockey but also contribute positively to the environment. We hope this initiative inspires athletes, fans, and organisations to actively participate in building a greener and more sustainable future.”
The FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 Hyderabad, Telangana will feature eight international teams — hosts India, England, Scotland, Korea, Italy, Uruguay, Wales, and Austria — competing for three coveted qualification spots at the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026. The teams are divided into two pools, with England, Korea, Italy, and Austria in Pool A, while hosts India, Scotland, Uruguay, and Wales form Pool B.
