Capri Sports is delighted to unveil its commitment on Children’s Day to advancing sports accessibility for young girls in marginalized communities. Over the next few years, a substantial investment exceeding INR 5 crore will be directed toward a range of initiatives as part of the ‘Beyond The Scorecard’ program. This initiative is strategically designed to break barriers and provide valuable life lessons through sports.
While women are the strongest pillars of growth in any community, their potential and development is unfortunately stunted by their lack of access to key facilities such as education, sports & health. With direct correlations to employment opportunities, quality of life, and even equal say in household decisions – it’s imperative to invest in gender equality and the intentional creation of level playing fields within fundamental areas of personal development.
Capri Sports is aiming to achieve this through partnerships with several organizations. The first of many is with Project Khel which stands as a pivotal collaborator in this mission. Project Khel, an Uttar Pradesh-based organisation touching the lives of over 500 low-income children via after-school programmes and tournaments, will look to utilise sports as a tool to impart life skills and promote healthy gender dynamics. The project is also focused on tapping into aptitude building within areas of communication, problem-solving, and emotional regulation through sport.
The initiative will also look to address the historical gatekeeping that has often led to women’s exclusion from sports in everyday life. Through supporting community-led workshops and events, the initiative would hope to facilitate, and enable multiple communities of women to claim sports as part of their unique narrative.
Jinisha Sharma, Director at Capri Sports, shared her enthusiasm for this exciting initiative by saying, ” At Capri Sports, we believe in the transformative power of sports to instil essential life skills and values. Our commitment extends beyond financial investments, focusing on creating sustainable partnerships for a lasting impact. Access to sports for young girls transcends mere play; it is the gateway to empowerment, education, health, and societal transformation. It illuminates a path toward a brighter, more inclusive future, ensuring every girl has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to her community and beyond.”
