The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has acted firmly against Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant and the whole Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in their last match against Mumbai Indians (MI). After the high-intensity match, the BCCI issued financial penalties on Rishabh Pant and LSG players for slow over-rate and disciplinary offenses.
Rishabh Pant fined for slow over-rate
As per the official release, Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹24 lakh for causing a slow over-rate during the game against MI. This was Pant’s second offence under IPL’s Code of Conduct for slow over-rate for the current season. According to IPL rules, captains are seriously fined for recurring slow over-rate offences, and this also attracts higher fines for other members of the team.
LSG players also fined
Not only the captain, but even the rest of the playing XI of the Lucknow Super Giants team were also fined. All the players of the team, including the impact substitute, were fined ₹6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fee, whichever is lower. This collective fine reflects the gravity with which the IPL Governing Council is taking offenses pertaining to game pace and on-field conduct.
Warning against future behavior
The BCCI has highlighted that recurrent offenses would attract harsher penalties, including possible suspension of captains for upcoming matches. Teams are therefore under increased pressure to strictly follow over-rate regulations and keep discipline during matches. This action acts as a warning to all franchises to manage time effectively and keep games running without undue delay.
IPL stands firm on Code of Conduct
The Indian Premier League has always maintained strict standards regarding discipline and sportsmanship. With the competition heating up, the BCCI’s decision to penalise players and teams serves as a clear warning that there will be no leniency towards rule violations. As the tournament progresses, it will be crucial for all teams to stay within the guidelines to avoid further penalties.
