The DC Junior League 2021, which kicked off on 21st February 2021, came to an end on 06 March 2021. The first edition of the one-of-a-kind DC Junior League 2021 came to an end after Baba Haridas Cricket Academy (153/2) defeated Ravinder Phagna Cricket Academy (149/6) by eight wickets in the final at the BallPark Cricket Ground in Gurugram in the weekend. The 40-overs-a-side U-14 tournament, which was held across three venues in Delhi NCR, had kicked off on 21 February.
The teams participating in the tournament included DC Academy, Sports Cube, Amigos, Baba Haridas CA, Push CC, Wonders CC, Dronacharya CA, Push CCE, G.S Harry CA, WDCA, Young Blasters, Phagna CC, LB Shastri, M-10 CA, Sonnet and Telefunken CC.
Baba Haridas CA’s Madhur Yadav was adjudged the Man of the Series for scoring 327 runs and taking 5 wickets in the tournament, Telefunken’s Parikshit Sehrawat won the Best Batsman award for notching 285 runs in the tournament, Baba Haridas CA’s Gorish Dahiya, who took 14 wickets in the competition, won the Best Bowler award and Sonnet’s Anant Bisht bagged the Rite-Aid Safe Hands (Best Wicket-keeper) award for effecting nine dismissals in the tournament. While Phagna CC’s Mohd. Shanib won the Emerging Youngster of the Tournament for taking seven wickets in the DC Junior League 2021.
“The first edition of the DC Junior league has been a stepping stone towards providing an organised and fair platform to the U-14 kids aspiring to play professional cricket. The results have been overwhelming in terms of the performances that we have seen and the exceptional talent that has come out in 2 weeks of this league,” said Jagrit Anand, Head of DC Academies, on the competition. “It’s just the kind of exposure that was needed at this age group and all the teams which participated have considered this league as an extremely important “learning process” for the children. We look forward to hosting more of such leagues to encourage the new generation of cricketers and feed the best talent to the selectors, right from sub junior level.”
