Abu Metha Releases AKIMJI

Advisor to CM & President Nagaland Athletics Association, Abu Metha officially released the souvenir ‘Akimji’ in a musical programme held in honour of delegates of the South Asian Cross Country Championship and 56th National Cross Country Championship at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on 25th March 2022.

‘Akimji’- The official mascot of the South Asian Cross Country Championships and 56th National Cross Country is a joyous happy running Hornbill and the name of the Mascot is a connotation of the word AMBITION derived from Sumi dialect of Naga tribe which exemplifies the ambition of the new generation of Naga youth.

Speaker, NLA and host of the programme, Sharingain Longkumer, in his opening address stated that this event is Nagaland’s biggest sporting event ever since Nagaland achieved Statehood and is proud to host it. He shared that this event has brought the athletes, officials and the delegates from the entire South Asian region together, giving the opportunity for national and international athletes to engage in healthy competition and to learn from each other, the cultures, customs, nation and their societies.

Longkumer expressed that this event will foster new friendship, and strengthen relationships among sportspersons and among countries.

He also stated that the Government of Nagaland is committed to promote sports in all possible ways as it is convinced about the contribution it can make to our society, both for individuals and for the community. He further stressed that under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio aided by some of the best bureaucrats and technocrats, Nagaland has slowly transformed itself into a vibrant and progressive state where the policies of the government is focussed on bringing socio- economic development to all corners of the State.

Longkumer also acknowledged the President of the Athletics Federation Nagaland and his team of colleagues for bringing the world to Nagaland through this National cross country event.

Coloured Keys, Pong Cholom & Thang-Ta’ from Manipur, Nungshi Pongen, Everglow, Pretty Rhythm, Ameü Usou Zao Choir and Assamese Cultural Troupe performed during the musical programme.
