Mumbai, July 11, 2024: With the Olympic Games back for another edition, all eyes will be on Paris from July 26 to August 11 for the biggest sporting event in the world. India performed strongly at the Tokyo Olympics, with seven medals – their best-ever haul. This time, the travelling athletes hope to improve their tally and make the Indian sports fans proud.

Joining the Indian contingent are three of the Dream Sports Foundation’s top athletes: Table Tennis ace Sreeja Akula, and Sailors Nethra Kumanan and Vishnu Saravanan. The trio are part of the DSF’s elite-athlete development program — Dream Gold.

Sreeja has been one of DSF’s biggest success stories. Sreeja was identified for support under the Dream Gold program in 2022 and since then, she has broken into the Top 30 world ranking, won major WTT tournaments and Gold for India at the Commonwealth Games. The two-time National Champion has had a tremendous year so far, claiming her maiden international title at the WTT Feeder Corpus Christi 2024 in Texas, USA in January. She followed it up with a double title (Women’s Singles and Doubles) at WTT Contender, Lagos in June. She rose to her career-best 24th rank in 2024, becoming India’s top-ranked female singles table tennis player in the process.

Having been supported by the Dream Sports Foundation since 2018, Nethra Kumanan was the first woman sailor to represent India at the Olympics back in 2021 in Tokyo. She came into prominence after winning Bronze in round 2 of the Hempel World Series in Miami, United States in 2020. The 26-year-old qualified for the ILCA 6 Women (Laser Radial Sailing) at the Paris Olympics after a splendid performance at the Last Chance Regatta — an Olympic qualifier — in Hyeres, France. Nethra secured the Olympic quota as the top sailor among the Emerging Nations Program (ENP) after earning 67 net points and finishing fifth on the overall leaderboard.

Also in his second Olympics after Tokyo much like Nethra, Vishnu Saravanan has won medals in various international and national competitions. He is a two-time Asian Championships medallist in 2020 and 2022, as well as an Asian Games Bronze Medallist. Vishnu’s path to Olympic success has been carefully planned, highlighted by consistent athletic performances. DSF’s support has helped Vishnu procure Sailing equipment and cover crucial foreign coaching in Malta. Vishnu will compete in the Men’s one-person dinghy at the Paris Olympics after having qualified for the same at the 2024 World Sailing Championship held in Adelaide.

All the aforementioned athletes have received targeted and scientific interventions from the DSF, which has helped them make a difference in their respective careers. Tailored nutrition plans, physical and mental conditioning and innovative sports science technology have benefited their development, and will hopefully push them towards adding a medal to India’s tally at the Paris Olympics.
