1998 Asian Games gold medalist boxer Dingko Singh dies after long battle with cancer

1998 Bangkok, Asian Games gold medalist, former boxer Dingko Singh died today, 10th june after prolonged illness at his residence at Sekta village in Manipur’s Imphal East district. He was 42 and had been fighting the disease since 2017. Dingko Singh was one of India’s finest boxer. He was awarded the Arjuna award in 1998 and country’s fourth-highest civilian award Padma Shri in 2013.

“I’m deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Dingko Singh. One of the finest boxers India has ever produced, Dinko’s gold medal at 1998 Bangkok Asian Games sparked the Boxing chain reaction in India. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family. RIP Dinko,” Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

The boxing federation of India expressed deep grief over the passing away of boxer Dingko singh.
