1. PM Modi highlights strong relationship between India and Israel on 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

2. India supplies fourth batch of medical assistance to Afghanistan. India has supplied three tonnes of life-saving medicines to Afghanistan in the fourth batch of medical assistance to the war-torn country, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday. The shipment, which consisted of 5 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses, was handed over to Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul, it added. Currently, Afghanistan is dealing with a humanitarian crisis.

3. Union Minister Gen VK Singh on Saturday called The New York Times “Supari Media” over its report which claimed that the Indian government bought the Pegasus spy tool in 2017 as part of a deal with Israel.

4. Do not need certificate from others’: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) hits out at former vice-president of India Hamid Ansari, US lawmakers. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India is a robust and vibrant democracy and does not require a certificate from others.
Ansari and the four US lawmakers had made comments on the current human rights situation in India at a virtual panel discussion organised by the Indian American Muslim Council. Participating in the panel discussion from India, Ansari had expressed his concern over the rising trend of Hindu nationalism.

1. The BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron is 1.5 times more transmissible than the original Omicron strain, according to a study led by Danish researchers. Omicron, which is also referred to as B.1.1.529, has three main substrains, BA.1, BA.2, and BA.3, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

2. A Russian lawmaker on Saturday said that Russian citizens who are permanently residing in rebel-controlled regions of Ukraine can join Russia’s military. These recruits will serve in Russia, Viktor Vodolatsky added. Notably, the announcement was made amid tensions between Russia and the West over the Russian troop build-up near the border with Ukraine.

3. Cambodia on Saturday said that it will host a summit of Foreign Ministers (FMs) of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member-states on February 16 and 17 to discuss humanitarian aid for Myanmar. This comes after the 10-member bloc barred Myanmar military junta over its failure to follow the group’s five-point consensus that included ceasing hostilities and allowing dialogue.
