1. *Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday* , according to his media adviser. Bennett, 50, was scheduled to visit India from April 3 to 5. It is not yet known if the visit will be called off.
2. US President Joe Biden’s 2023 budget proposal seeks around USD 1.8 billion to support a free and open Indo-Pacific region, an official document revealed on 28 Mar (Monday).
3. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Trade Minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi on Monday said the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is the largest agreement that the middle eastern country will sign. UAE delegation will pay a visit to India from May 12-15 to showcase the potential of the agreements signed with India.
4. British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss will visit India on Thursday against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Announcing the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday said Ms Truss will hold consultations with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. This would be the 2nd visit of the UK Foreign Secretary to India since the virtual summit.
5. INDIA RULES OUT TAKING PART IN TALKS TO JOIN 15-NATION TRADING BLOC: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has ruled out India resuming talks to join the ‘Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)’, saying that the country walked out of the negotiations two years ago to give primacy to the national interest.
6. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar who is in Sri Lanka called on President Gotabaya Rajpaksha on 28 Mar in Colombo. They reviewed various dimensions of the close neighbourly relationship. Dr Jaishankar assured him of India’s continued cooperation and understanding.

1. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi last week warned Nepal of “external interference” threatening the core interests of both countries.This warning came only a month after Kathmandu ratified a US aid grant termed by China as “coercive diplomacy”.
2. In a major relief to the cash-strapped country, Pakistan, which is already facing a severe economic crisis, has managed to convince Beijing to rollover USD 4.2 billion debt that was maturing last week.With the country currently plagued with high inflation and large debt, Islamabad’s pleas have been heard by China as Beijing rollover the debt.
3. A spokesperson for the Mayor of Ukraine’s besieged Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, on Monday said that nearly 5,000 people, including 210 children, have been killed in the city since the Russian forces laid siege to it.
4. SOUTH-EAST ASIAN NATIONS OPPOSE CHINA’S INCREASED MILITARY ACTIVITIES IN SOUTH CHINA SEA: The violations of international law, as well as foreign interference in the disputed waters of the South China Sea by China, has led many South-East Asian nations to oppose Beijing’s military activities in the area.
5. Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina on Monday criticised the US for imposing sanctions on the country’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). “In their country they do not take any action against any member of their forces for their criminal activities,” she added. The US had imposed the sanctions on the paramilitary force in 2021 for alleged human rights abuse and abductions.
6. Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Monday announced that the government will rent out the presidential jet for parties and weddings. “The rental fees will pay for its expenses and maintenance,” he said. This move comes after Obrador’s failed attempts to sell the Boeing 787 jet, which he calls too luxurious and refuses to use.
7. Russia’s foreign minister says the presidents of Russia and Ukraine could meet for talks only after the key elements of a potential deal are negotiated.
8. European Union judicial coordination agency Eurojust says it has helped Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine to establish a joint investigation team to probe war crimes, crimes against humanity and other crimes committed in Ukraine.
9. Energy ministers from G7 the Group of Seven industrialized nations reject demands by President Vladimir Putin that “unfriendly” countries pay for Russian gas with roubles, Germany’s Robert Habeck said after talks with his counterparts on Monday.
