1. OPERATION KAVERI: A C-17 flight carrying 392 passengers from Sudan reaches New Delhi on 28 April.
2. In a daring operation carried out on the night of 27th and 28th April 2023, a C-130J aircraft of the IAF rescued 121 personnel from a small airstrip at Wadi Sayyidna, which is about 40 km North of Khartoum.

7. Ukraine says ready to launch assault to retake occupied land. Kyiv said on Friday it was nearly ready to launch a huge ground assault to retake occupied land, after Russia hurled missiles at cities as people slept overnight, killing at least 21 civilians in its first large-scale air strikes in nearly two months. The war is coming to a crucial juncture after a months-long Russian winter offensive that gained little ground despite the bloodiest fighting so far. Kyiv is preparing a counteroffensive using hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles sent by the West.

1. Wiener Zeitung, one of the world’s oldest newspapers, will cease to publish its print edition after a decision made by Austrian Parliament on Thursday. Founded in 1703, Wiener Zeitung claims to be the oldest surviving daily newspaper in the world.
2. Iran has seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, the US Navy said. Iran said it seized the vessel after it collided with an Iranian boat, injuring several crewmen. Iranian state media said that naval forces intercepted the tanker and directed it toward country’s coastal waters as it tried to flee.
3. BBC chairman Richard Sharp resigned on Friday after a report found he broke the rules by failing to disclose the role he played in helping former British prime minister Boris Johnson secure an 800,000-pounds loan.
4. Pakistan becomes largest recipient of ADB funded programmes in 2022: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Report 2022 revealed that Pakistan received loans of $5.58 billion, making it the largest recipient of ADB-funded programs/projects in the year 2022.
6. Alessandra Korap, an indigenous Munduruku woman from the Brazilian Amazon, has been recognized with a 2023 Goldman Environmental Prize.
