1. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says NATO risks turning Ukraine conflict into world war with nuclear weapons.
2. World Bank to provide 600 million US dollars financial assistance to Sri Lanka to make payments for essential imports.
3. The EU on Wednesday launched its rule of law mechanism against the Hungarian government that could strip Hungary of its EU funding.
The mechanism allows the EU to withhold funds from member states if they are found to have committed violations against the EU’s democratic standards.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticised “corruption” in Hungary earlier this month.
4. Russia on Wednesday placed sanctions on 287 lawmakers from the UK’s lower house of parliament and banned them from entering the country amid the ongoing Ukraine invasion.
5. A boat carrying 61 migrants capsized off Spain’s Canary Islands leaving one person dead and 24 missing. Spain’s marine services rescued 36 people, including two minors and 10 women, and recovered the body of a woman.
