INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. India & China have agreed on the need to find an early resolution to the remaining issues along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh.

2. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a meeting that India supports all peace initiatives & brought several development projects to Afghanistan and the world knows what Pakistan brought…?

3. The Indian Navy & the Air Force concluded a two-day passage exercise which began on 23 June (Wednesday) with US Navy Carrier Strike Group (CSG) Ronald Reagan during its transit through the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The Navy’s INS Kochi & Teg, along with P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft & MiG 29K fighters, participated in the exercise.

4. Serum Institute begins production of Covovax Covid-19 vaccine at Pune plant: Adar Poonawalla, CEO, SII, said.

5. China operationalised its first fully electrified bullet train in the remote Himalayan region of Tibet, connecting the provincial capital Lhasa and Nyingchi, a strategically located Tibetan border town close to Arunachal Pradesh.

1. Bangladesh to impose week long countrywide strict lockdown from Monday (28 June).

2. Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd, whose dying gasps under Chauvin’s knee on May 25, 2020, led to the biggest outcry against racial injustice in the U.S. in generations.

3. 26 June – International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

In 1987, the United Nations General Assembly decided to observe 26th June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse

4. 26 June – International Day in Support of Victims of Torture: The day was selected by the United Nations General Assembly because on 26 June 1945, the United Nations Charter was signed during the midst of World War II – the first international instrument obliging UN members to respect and promote human rights. So from
12 December, 1997 to eradicate torture and the effective functioning of the Convention against Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment this day is observed.

5. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on 25 June retained Pakistan in its “grey list” for failing to adequately investigate and prosecute senior leaders and commanders of UN-designated terrorist groups.
