Spain election Conservative Peoples Party wins wins most seats

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The 3rd G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, under the India’s Presidency, started in Chennai.

2. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval participated in Friends of BRICS Meeting at Johannesburg yesterday on 24 Jul. The issue of cyber security was discussed at length in the meeting.

3. The redeveloped India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) complex, G-20 venue in Delhi to be inaugurated on July 26.

4. India and Argentina have agreed to a bilateral exchange of young researchers and Startups, particularly in the field of Biotechnology and Agriculture.

5. India and United Kingdom have concluded the eleventh round of talks for the UK- India Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited UK this month and met the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Kemi Badenoch, and the Minister of State for International Trade, Nigel Huddleston. They discussed ways to make progress on the FTA negotiations and wider trade and investment opportunities for the UK and India. The twelfth round of negotiations is due to take place in the coming months.

6. As per a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, India, world’s top rice exporter, has implemented a ban on all exports of “non-basmati white rice” to stabilize domestic prices.

7. Sri Lanka is considering the possibility of allowing the usage of the Indian rupee for local transactions.

8. India will launch the PSLV-C56 carrying DS-SAR satellites from Singapore, along with six co-passenger satellites, from ISRO’s Sriharikota spaceport on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

1. The conservative Popular Party wins a tight election in Spain but fails to secure a clear majority to govern.

The conservative Popular Party won the elections, but it fell short of its hopes of scoring a much bigger victory and forcing the removal of Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Instead, the party led by candidate Alberto Núñez Feijóo performed below the expectations of most campaign polls.

2. 19 thousand people evacuate from Greek island of Rhodes after huge wild fires.

3. USA President Joe Biden will establish a national monument honoring Emmett Till, the Black teenager from Chicago who was abducted, tortured and killed in 1955 after he was accused of whistling at a white woman in Mississippi.

He will sign a proclamation on Tuesday to create the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument across three sites in Illinois and Mississippi.

4. International Seabed Authority (ISA) member nations aim to ink deep-sea mining rules by 2025.

7. An Islamist preacher with dual British and Pakistani nationality has been charged with three terror offences in the UK after being arrested in London last week. The 56-year-old man, Anjem Choudary, was imprisoned in the UK in 2016 for encouraging support for the Islamic State (IS) before being released in 2018. Choudary had reportedly also praised the 9/11 attackers.
