1. Emmanuel Macron defeats Marine Le Pen in French election. A second five-year term for the 44-year-old centrist spared France and Europe from the seismic upheaval of a shift of power to firebrand populist Marine Le Pen. Five years ago, Mr Macron won a sweeping victory over Le Pen to become France’s youngest president at 39. The margin is expected to be much smaller this time: Polling agencies Opinionway, Harris and Ifop projected Sunday that Mr Macron would win at least 57% of the vote.
2. Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) has set up a satellite data centre in Wenchang city in the country’s Hainan province.
3. After having his name removed from the Exit Control List (ECL), Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a trip to Saudi Arabia on April 27, media reports.
ECL is an ordinance to provide for the control of the exit of certain persons from Pakistan who have been involved in any economic crime involving government funds, mass corruption, or misuse of authority.
4. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin were in Kyiv late on Sunday night for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
5. Thousands of university students protested outside the home of Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday, calling for him to resign over his handling of the economic crisis.
6. Russia’s flag carrier Aeroflot will resume its flights to the Maldives from May 13, the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority said.
