india issues advisory for indian nationals and students in canada

1. India issued a travel advisory for all Indian nationals in Canada, including students, urging them to register with Indian missions. India told its citizens to avoid travelling to parts of Canada, following a diplomatic row sparked by the allegation that New Delhi was involved in the killing of a Sikh separatist near Vancouver.

2. India has temporarily suspended visa services in Canada including E-visa. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi informed that the decision was taken due to the incitement of violence and inaction of Canadian authority and creating an environment that disrupts the functions of the Indian High Commission and Consulates in 🇨🇦Canada.

3. Amid the ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada, the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that no information has been shared by Canada regarding the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

4. On the reports of threats to Canadian diplomats in India, the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that New Delhi takes Vienna’s obligations very seriously of providing security to foreign diplomats in India, adding that it expects the same from the Canadian side.

7. 🇳🇵Nepal Electricity Authority exported power worth over Rs 5.43 billion to India in the first two months of the current fiscal year. In the first and second months of the fiscal year, NEA supplied electricity to India worth Rs 1.95 billion and 3.48 billion, respectively.

1. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has unveiled a shift in the UK’s strategy for achieving its Net Zero climate action targets. This strategy includes a significant delay of five years in implementing the proposed ban on petrol and diesel cars, pushing the deadline to 2035.

2. The headscarf bill was approved by 152 lawmakers in Iran’s 290-seat parliament on September 20. It would take effect for a preliminary period of three years. Iran’s parliament has approved a bill to impose heavier penalties on women who refuse to wear the mandatory Islamic headscarf in public and those who support them.

3. United Nations agencies, including UNHCR and WHO, have reported that more than 1,200 children under the age of five have died from suspected measles and malnutrition in nine refugee camps in Sudan’s White Nile State between May and September.

4. 🇦🇿Azerbaijan’s military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh has ignited concerns of a renewed conflict in the region. This long-standing dispute revolves around an ethnic 🇦🇲Armenian region within Azerbaijani territory. The recent attacks have escalated tensions and raised international alarm.

5. Every year, the full week ending on the last Sunday of September is observed as the International Week of the Deaf (IWD). In 2023, IWD is being observed from September 18 to 24. The last Sunday of the month of September is celebrated as the World Day of Deaf or International Day of the Deaf. (24 Sept 2023).

6. 🇵🇰Pakistan caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar during his visit to the UNGA session in New York got advice from International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to tax rich people in the country and provide relief to the poor.

7. 🇨🇦Canadian MP Chandra Arya hits out at the Khalistani terrorists and gangsters. In a video message, Mr Arya also condemned the attack on the country’s Hindu community by the pro-Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice’s president Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.

He said that the attack on the Hindu Canadians is further escalating due to the glorification of terrorism in the name of freedom of speech and lack of action against the Khalistani leader.

8. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today announced that the next General Elections would be held in the last week of January next year (2024).

Pakistan has a caretaker government in place, after the Shebhaz Sharif-led government dissolved itself and the National Assembly on the 9th of August. The caretaker government is being led by Anwar ul Haq Kakar as Prime Minister.
