US President Joe Biden would host PM Modi

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. PM Modi to leave for US today (22 Sep) ; Expected to discuss radicalisation, terrorism & developments in Afghanistan during bilateral talks with President Biden. During the visit, PM Modi will meet US President Joe Biden in Washington and will address the UNGA in New York.

2. US President Joe Biden would host PM Modi for their first in-person bilateral meeting at the White House on Sep 24 to further cement the close relationship between the two countries.

3. AUKUS won’t impact Quad, US tells India:
The US on 20 Sep briefed India on its new trilateral AUKUS military pact with the UK and Australia to take on the challenges posed by China in the Indo-Pacific, stressing it will not detract from either the bilateral cooperation with New Delhi or multilateral ones like the `Quad’.

4. India and Nepal began a 15-day military exercise — Surya Kiran — in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh on September 20 with a focus on counter-terror drills and disaster relief operations. The aim of the 15th edition of Surya Kiran is to boost overall interoperability between the two militaries.

5. PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with President of France Emmanuel Macron on 21 Sep: The two leaders discussed regional issues including recent developments in Afghanistan. In this context, they shared their concerns about possible spread of terrorism, narcotics, illicit weapons and human trafficking, as well as the need to ensure human rights, rights of women and minorities.

6. Canada resumes flights to India under the bilateral Air Bubble agreement.

7. The govt of Bangladesh has given permission to 52 trading organisations to export Hilsa fish to India on the occasion of the Durga Puja.

8. COVID: Vaccinated passengers from India, other nations can travel to US from November.

1. Indonesia has stepped up air and Naval patrols around its Natuna Islands in the South China Sea, after reportedly spotting Chinese and US vessels nearby. This comes amid reports that a Chinese survey vessel did operate in the Tuna Block — an important oil and gas field in the area.

2. Indonesian Navy western fleet commander Arsyad Abdullah told reporters last week that five navy vessels, assisted by an air patrol, have been deployed in North Natuna Sea to secure the area.

3. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has been conferred with SDG Progress award for Bangladesh’s steady progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN sponsored Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The Bangladesh PM Hasina is currently visiting the US to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

4. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has put on hold funds to Afghanistan amid the rising uncertainty in the country. These developments came after IMF recently announced a 650 billion US Dollars Special Drawing Rights (SDR) allocation for member countries, but Afghanistan at the moment will not be allowed to access these funds.

5. In Russia, eight people were killed when a gunman opened fire at a university in the city of Perm. The assailant walked on to the campus and started shooting indiscriminately. The incident occurred at 11.00 hours (06:00 GMT) at Perm State University,

6 . The World Peace Day also known as International Day of Peace. It is observed every year on 21 September. This day is celebrated around the world to strengthen the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
