1. BRICS SHOULD SHOW ‘ZERO TOLERANCE’ TO CROSS-BORDER TERRORISM, says External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on 19 May. While addressing a virtual meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers.
The minister also said that a globalised world will give due regard to trust and transparency. The BRICS countries must live up to their commitments to sovereign equality, territorial integrity and international law.
2. India on Friday said that a second bridge being constructed by China on Pangong lake is in an area that has been under illegal occupation of that country since 1960.
3. Cases in Europe
Amid cases of monkeypox in few countries, government has directed officials to keep a close watch on the situation.
The Govt also directed airport and port health officers to be vigilant. “They’ve been instructed that any sick passenger with travel history to…affected countries be isolated and samples sent…for investigation,” an official source said.

5. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro met the world’s richest person and Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Brazil on 20 May.
Bolsonaro hailed Musk’s $44 billion bid to acquire Twitter and said, “For us here it was like a breath of hope.” They also talked about connectivity, investments, innovation and the use of technology to reinforce protection of the Amazon rainforest, Bolsonaro tweeted.
6. Russia has informed Finland it will halt the natural gas supply from Saturday after the Finnish state-owned gas wholesaler refused to pay its Russian supplier in roubles.

8. The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the rapidly growing monkeypox outbreak.
