PM speaks to Palestinian President, assures humanitarian assistance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed condolences to President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas and reiterated India’s long-standing “principled position” on the Israel-Palestine issue.

In a phone conversation, Modi, at the same time, shared with Abbas India’s “deep concern” over terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region.

“Spoke to the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. Conveyed my condolences at the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. We will continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. Shared our deep concern at the terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region,”

1. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar chaired the Regional Conference of India’s ASEAN and East Asia Ambassadors today in Singapore.

2. Around 1,200 people have been brought back from Israel under Operation Ajay in five flights so far. Briefing media in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said these include 18 Nepali nationals.

1. The UK PM Rishi Sunak who has been voicing support in favour of Israel’s “right to defend” against the Hamas attack met Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will later travel to other countries in the Middle East for further discussions.

2. US President Joe Biden has said Egypt has agreed to open a border crossing into Gaza to allow in 20 trucks with humanitarian aid as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

3. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has relaxed several targets for Bangladesh. For the loan package of the 4.70 billion, IMF had set some targets for Bangladesh including foreign exchange reserves, revenue collection, automatic price adjustment of fuel.

5. European Commission (EC) issues a notice for information to Meta and TikTok, under the European Union’s Digital Service Act (DSA).

6. *Constr of New Airports in Tibet*. On 19 Oct 23, Chinese media reported the construction of 7 x New Airports in Tibet starting this year. With Lhasa Gonggar Airport as the core, it is planning to fully expand its business aircraft services supported by the advancement of Nyingchi ,Longzi, Shigatse Tingri, Alikunsha, Alipuran and other airports and expand general aviation services such as emergency rescue.

7. *Senior Chinese Military Officer Meets Serbian Defense Minister*. Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, met with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic.

8. 44th Chinese Naval Escort Taskforce Arrives in Kuwait. After successfully concluding its visit to Oman, the 44th Chinese naval escort taskforce arrived at Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait, as planned, on the morning of October 18, for a five-day goodwill visit. Guided by Kuwaiti naval patrol craft Failaka, warships of the Chinese taskforce including ship Zibo, ship Jingzhou and ship Qiandaohu docked at Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait,.

9. On 19 Oct 23, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso, who is in Beijing for the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
