1. PM Modi will embark on a three-nation tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia 19 May morning. On the first leg of his tour, the PM will attend G7 Summit in Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

2. India plans to launch an unmanned mission and send a female robot in the first and second missions, respectively, preceding the Gaganyaan human space-flight programme by the end of 2023 or in 2024, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said.

3. A US court has approved the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani descent, to India where he is sought for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

4. US pharma major Pfizer has temporarily suspended the sale and distribution of its life-saving antibiotics – Magnex, Zosyn, Magnamycin injections and Magnex Forte. The action was taken after Pfizer’s contract manufacturer in India, Astral SteriTech, reported certain deviations observed in the manufacturing process. These antibiotics are used to treat infections in critically ill patients in ICUs.

5. India and the European Union will coordinate their policies with regards to the strategic semiconductor sector, with the aim of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding by September 2023.

1. US Supreme Court ruled that Twitter, Facebook and Google shouldn’t be held liable by victims of “terrorist” attacks for postings that endorsed ISIS. The verdict is in favour of tech platforms that have faced lawsuits from critics who allege they should be held legally responsible for societal harms.

2. Billionaire real estate investor Sam Zell, who called himself ‘the Grave Dancer’ for his bets on distressed assets, has died aged 81 due to complications from a recent illness.

3. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife visited Japan for the G7 Summit, where Sunak secured a new “Hiroshima Accord” aimed at enhancing UK-Japan collaboration in economics, security, and technology. This new UK-Japan global strategic partnership is being seen as a counterbalance to Chinese dominance in the region and also includes a Semiconductors Partnership to pursue “ambitious” R&D cooperation and skills exchange to bolster supply chain resilience in the key sector.
