INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. President Droupadi Murmu left for London, United Kingdom on Saturday afternoon to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and offer condolences on behalf of the Government of India.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday starting at 11 a.m.

2. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will be visiting the US from Sunday till 28th September to participate in the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

3. PM Modi released wild Cheetahs, which had become extinct from India, in Kuno National Park on 17 Sep.

Cheetahs which have been brought from Namibia are being introduced in India under Project Cheetah, which is world’s first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project. Out of the eight Cheetahs there are five female and three male.

4. The UNESCO team, including an expert from International Commission on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), visited the 13th century Keshava temple at Somanathapur in Mysuru district on September 16 before concluding its tour of Hoysala monuments in Karnataka.

1. One of the four main lines supplying power from Ukraine’s electricity grid to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been repaired and restored, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said.

2. The world-famous Oktoberfest began in the German city of Munich on Saturday after a gap of two years. This year’s Oktoberfest will go on till October 3 and is the 187th edition.

3. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday said PM Shehbaz Sharif will appoint the country’s next Army chief in November this year.

4. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will prepare a list of separatist and terrorist groups that are banned on territories of member states.

5. Demands have grown in South Africa to bring back the 500-carat diamond known as the ‘Great Star of Africa’ or Cullinan I, which is the world’s largest known clear-cut diamond. Over 6,000 South Africans have signed an online petition seeking its return after Queen Elizabeth II’s death. The diamond, as big as a human heart.
