1. China halts the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) over differences in cost estimations and contractual disputes with Pakistan, the issue of overdue payments owed to Chinese independent power producers (IPPs) is near a breaking point.Citing media reports, Asia Times reported that Beijing is reluctant to pump in new funds under the CPEC arrangement until problems.

2. The United States and Russia on 16 Mar Wednesday held their first ‘high-level’ talks since the war in Ukraine began, the White House said, adding that US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held a discussion with General Nikolay Patrushev, the secretary of the Russian Security Council.

3. US President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced an additional USD 800 million in security assistance to Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia. The new security assistance provided to Ukraine includes 800 anti-aircraft, 9000 anti-armour systems, 7,000 small arms such as machine guns, shotguns, and grenade launchers as well as drones and other military equipment.

4. A powerful earthquake hit north-east Japan on Wednesday night, temporarily cutting power to two million homes. The magnitude 7.3 tremor struck the same region where a major earthquake triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster 11 years ago. Two people died and at least 90 were injured.
