Gaza running out of water, running out of life: UN
The Gaza-based staff of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA, have relocated to Rafah near the border with Egypt, and are working out of the same building as “thousands of desperate displaced people”, said Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

“Gaza is being strangled and it seems that the world right now has lost its humanity,” he said in a stark speech from the agency’s headquarters in East Jerusalem on Sunday.

1. India will install Radiation Detection Equipment (RDE) at eight land crossing points along its borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Nepal to prevent the trafficking of radioactive materials for use in nuclear devices. The RDE will be placed at Integrated Check Posts and land ports in strategic locations.

2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a six-day visit to Vietnam and Singapore from Sunday to shore up bilateral cooperation in diverse areas. In the first leg of his visit, Jaishankar will visit Vietnam from October 15 to 18 to discuss ways to review the progress in several areas and discuss ways to further enhance cooperation.

6. Two Israeli women cops of Indian origin killed in Hamas attack. Lieutenant Or Moses, 22, a commander in the Home Front Command, from Ashdod and Inspector Kim Dokraker, a Border Police officer in the police’s Central District, were killed in the attack on October 7, official sources confirmed.

1. Another earthquake with similar magnitude of 6.3 hit Afghanistan again on Sunday, 33 kilometres (20 miles) from Herat city, the capital of the western province of the same name, the US Geological Survey said.

2. Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu convenes emergency Israeli cabinet, vows to ‘demolish Hamas’ in Gaza.

3. The death toll from Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip surged to at least 2,670 since Hamas’s bloody attack on southern Israel last week.

4. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, stating that they have gone beyond self-defense and calling for an end to the collective punishment of the people of Gaza.

5. Six people were killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine in the past 24 hours, with two people killed and three injured in the Kherson area.

6. European Council President Charles Michel said on Saturday that he had convened a video conference summit of European Union leaders on Tuesday to discuss the Hamas attacks on Israelis and Israel’s response.

7. One of Pakistan’s key railway modernisation projects planned to be built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is in trouble due to the IMF’s conditions regarding sovereign guarantees for a $6.67 billion loan from China.

8. Pakistan’s interim PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar has made it clear that all political parties duly registered with the election commission would be eligible to take part in the upcoming election. His statement comes as doubts were being expressed about the fate of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party of jailed former premier Imran Khan.

9. The Taliban will attend China’s Belt and Road forum this week, underscoring Beijing’s growing official ties with the administration, despite its lack of formal recognition by any government.

10. Saudi Arabia has suspended talks on potentially normalising ties with Israel, amid the war raging between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
