1. Lanka, an all-party meeting has been held at Colombo to discuss the 13th Amendment to the country’s constitution to resolve the long-standing demand for political autonomy for the minority Tamils in Sri Lanka.
2. Peru government announces nationwide emergency amid fiery protests that have left at least eight dead.
The protests were sparked by the ousting of former President Pedro Castillo on 7th December in an impeachment vote. Castillo, a leftist elected in 2021 was arrested after illegally trying to dissolve the Andean nation’s Congress.
3. The Election Commission of Nepal submitted final results of House of Representatives’ elections to the President Bidya Devi Bhandari in Kathmandu.
Election held on November 20, a total of 825 people’s representatives were elected, out of this, 275 people were elected under the House of Representative and 550 were elected under the Provincial Assembly.
4. The UN Economic and Social Council have voted to immediately oust Iran from the U.N.’s premiere global body fighting for gender equality because of its systematic violation of the rights of women and girls.
5. G7 approves 15.5 billion US dollar deal with Vietnam to help cutting climate-damaging pollution.
6. China has recently raised a dispute with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the US chip sanctions.
The United States issued new export controls preventing the sales and services by the US businesses to Chinese chip manufacturers. The purpose of these restrictions is to prevent China from buying and manufacturing high-end chips with military applications.
