INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. India is closely monitoring the fast-changing situation in Afghanistan and will be deciding on the evacuation of diplomatic personnel from Kabul amid the Taliban gaining control. Air India flight from Kabul with 129 passengers lands in Delhi.

2. PM Modi has thanked Prime Ministers of Australia, Bhutan, Nepal and Mauritius for their greetings on India’s Independence Day.

3. Indian Embassy in Beijing( China) celebrates 75th Independence Day, hundreds of Indian community members participate in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

4. US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken greeted India on the occasion of its 75th Independence Day.

1. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigns & leaves country. Earlier, it was reported that Vice President Amrullah Saleh also fled out of the country. Diplomats from the various countries have already evacuated their embassies.

3. Taliban will soon declare the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ from the presidential palace in Kabul which they captured on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Kabul airport has been closed for commercial flights as military evacuations continue.

4. “Vande Mataram”, originally pronounced as ‘Bande Mataram’ is a poem written in 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee that found a place in his novel “Anandamath” in 1882 with additional stanzas, means “I praise thee, Mother” or “I praise to thee, Mother”.

5. Bangladesh observed the 46th martyrdom day of the founding President of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with 18 of his family members in Dhaka by some military men on the night of 15 August 1975. Only two members of his family, his eldest daughter and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and her sister survived as they were out of the country on that day.

6. The death toll from a powerful magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Haiti climbed sharply on Sunday, with at least 724 dead and a minimum of 2,800 injured.
