Telegram has released its new iOS update after getting approval from Apple

1. Ahead of India’s Independence Day on August 15, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti sent greetings from the International Space Station (ISS). In a video shared by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the astronaut said, “It’s a pleasure to congratulate India on 75 years of Independence.”

1. Firefighters halt spread of “monster” wildfire in France’s Gironde region.

2. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was “appalled” to learn about the attack on author Salman Rushdie, saying ‘violence cannot be a response to words’. Rushdie was stabbed by a 24-year-old man in New York on Friday.

3. 🇬🇧 UK Cabinet Minister Robert Buckland who backed Rishi Sunak in the race to become Britain’s next PM until recently, on Saturday switched sides to rival candidate Liz Truss’ camp. Buckland said now he believes Truss is the “right person to take the country forward”.

4. NASA has said that it will intentionally crash its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft into an asteroid on September 26, 2022. This will be done to “demonstrate and test” DART’s capability to deflect asteroids, NASA said. It could be used if, in the future, a hazardous asteroid on a collision course with Earth was ever found.
