2,000 dead in Libya floods, thousands missing after storm hits. Authorities in eastern Libya said at least 2,000 people were killed and thousands more were missing after a massive flood ripped through the city of Derna following a heavy storm and rain. Ahmed Mismari, the spokesperson for the Libyan National Army (LNA) that controls eastern Libya, said in a televised news conference that the disaster came after dams above Derna had collapsed, “sweeping whole neighbourhoods with their residents into the sea”.

1. HIGHLIGHTS OF G20 SUMMIT

(a) The African Union (AU) has been granted permanent membership in the G20 during the 18th G20 Heads of State Summit in New Delhi.

(b) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The move comes in response to concerns about unsustainable debt and geopolitical implications associated with China’s BRI projects.

(c) The G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration has announced the creation of a new ‘Working Group on Empowerment of Women’ to support the G20 Women’s Ministerial, with its first meeting scheduled during Brazil’s G20 presidency.

(d) The G20 New Delhi Declaration, adopted during the G20 Summit, addresses various global issues and showcases consensus-building efforts between G7 countries and the Russia-China bloc. While much attention is focused on the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

(e) The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) was officially launched on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

(f) Visiting G20 Heads of State, leaders and their spouses were presented with handcrafted artefacts signifying India’s rich culture from KASHMIRI PASHMINA to ZIGHRANA ITTAR by PM Modi.

2. CANADA🇨🇦 PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU FINALLY LEFT DELHI ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON. India had offered services of aircraft ‘Air India One’ to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after his special aircraft developed a technical glitch shortly before his departure from New Delhi after the G20 Summit, But, the Canadian side, however, declined the offer and chose to wait for the backup aircraft.

3. India confirmed to have sent supplies to the neighbouring country in the INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE ON THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS (OHCHR) Report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan at the 54th Session of the Human Rights Council. The session, which started on Monday, September 11, in Geneva will end on October 13.

Amid reports of worsening humanitarian situation in neighbouring Afghanistan, India said it delivered 50,000 MTs of wheat, 28 tons of disaster relief, and 200 tons of medicines, vaccines and other medical items to the country.

4. India has shown the world that it is ready and will become a “global leader in the future”, said South Korean ambassador Chang Jae-bok while lauding New Delhi’s “tremendous” work in reaching a G20 declaration.

🌎WORLD NEWS🌍

1. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Ukraine was only likely to start peace talks when it ran out of resources and would use any potential cessation of hostilities to rearm again with Western help. The war has sown devastation across swathes of eastern and southern Ukraine.

2. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is at risk of grounding 15 planes as it is yet to clear dues worth up to Rs 20 billion, Geo News reported.

3. The Central Bank of Afghanistan has initiated the promotion of the Afghani currency in the country’s southwestern region since last week and is likely to ban the use of Pakistani currency soon.

4. Amid the closure of Torkham crossing as the clashes continued for the 5th continuous day, the people in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar held protests to revolt against the ongoing situation. According to the protesters, Pakistan has regularly closed the Torkham border under various pretexts during the fruit and vegetable season.

5. China said that it welcomes the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor announced on the sidelines of the G20 summit so long it doesn’t become a “geopolitical tool”.
