1. Himalayan Bridge Project Sparks Fresh China-India Tension: The tension between India and China is mounting again in the Himalayan region of Ladakh over a new bridge constructed by the Chinese on the banks of the Pangong Tso Lake in eastern Ladakh.

2. China says current situation on Sino-India border ‘stable’; confirms commander-level talks on Jan 12: as it confirmed that the 14th round of Corps Commander-level talks to discuss the disengagement process in the remaining friction points.

India-US agree to advance cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security among other issues: The Senior Officers Meeting of the India-US Homeland Security Dialogue was held on Wednesday in virtual mode. The meeting was co-chaired by Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy and Plans, Department of Homeland Security, Government of USA, Robert Silvers.

1. Kazakhstan detains nearly 1,700 more people after violent unrest
Kazakh authorities said they’ve detained 1,678 more people in the past 24 hours over their alleged participation in the January 2 violent unrest.
The additional arrests brought the total number of arrests to about 12,000. It comes after government buildings and security forces were attacked last week after peaceful protests over fuel price hike turned into violent anti-government demonstrations.

2. NATO-Russia Council (comprising of 30 NATO allies and Russia) convened for a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday for first time since 2019.
The meeting, that came amid security concerns over increased Russian troop deployment at Ukrainian border, was a difficult and “direct” one, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said.
