INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. PM Modi will be on a two-day visit to Samarkand of Uzbekistan from the 15th of September to attend the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has signed an MoU with the Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf on the mechanism of consultations between India and the GCC.

3. Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal has said that India is on the path to become a powerhouse driving global growth by 2047. He said this while interacting with the Business Community of Southern California.

4. NITI Aayog and World Resources Institute (WRI), launched India’s first National Electric Freight Platform- E-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport-India). The National Electric Freight Platform brings different stakeholders together with the support of the World Economic Forum, CALSTART, and RMI India.

5. The United Nations (UN) General Assembly approved Volker Türk of Austria to be the global body’s Human Rights Chief by UN Secretary­-General Antonio Guterres.

1. Queen Elizabeth’s coffin arrived in Edinburgh on Sunday after a six-hour journey from Balmoral Castle, her summer home in the Scottish Highlands. The coffin will remain overnight at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Elizabeth’s official Scottish residence. It will be taken to Edinburgh’s St Giles Cathedral for a service on Monday. The Queen’s state funeral will be held on September 19.

3. The death toll from a migrant boat capsize last week off the coast of Tunisia in the Mediterranean Sea has risen to 11, The boat was carrying 37 people, out of which 14 have been rescued so far. As many as 12 occupants of the boat are still missing.

4. Two US military aircraft carrying relief supplies for those affected by the recent floods in Pakistan landed at Sukkur Airport in Sindh province on Sunday, Pakistani authorities said. Each plane brought in around 35 tons of relief aid, authorities added. It is estimated that millions have been left homeless by the floods that have battered Pakistan since mid-June.
