20th Anniversary of 9 11 attacks being observed

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. Education is an important sector where India and Bangladesh can work more collaboratively. The Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi requested the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami to lay more emphasis on student exchange and cultural exchange programmes between the two countries

2. 36th Rafale to have all India specific enhancements, arrives Jan 2022 : France will deliver three Rafale fighters per month for the next three months with the last of the 36 contracted omni-role fighters carrying all 13 India specific enhancements to be delivered in January 2022.

3. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Karambir Singh, visited the Mauritius Coast Guard Ship (MCGS) Barracuda at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) on 09 Sep to review the ongoing maintenance activities, a defence official said here. During the visit, the Navy chief met the crew of MCGS Barracuda.

1. 20th Anniversary of 9/11 attacks being observed yesterday. Two decades ago , on this very day 19 AlQaeda terrorists hijacked four aircrafts in United States with a sinister design. Two aircrafts crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York while one of them crashed into Pentagon outside Washington. 2,977 people were killed in these dastardly attacks, raising the spectre of terrorism.

2. Taliban cancels inauguration ceremony of their newly formed interim govt in Afghanistan.

3. In Panjshir province, it was reported that former Afghanistan vice president Amrullah Saleh’s brother Rohullah was killed. He was allegedly tortured by Taliban fighters. Rohullah Azizi was going somewhere in a car on 09 Sep, when Taliban fighters stopped him at a checkpoint.

4. In Italy, two people were killed after a tornado swept through an island last night. Nine others were injured as the whirlwind overturned cars and ripped off roofs on the tourist hotspot of Pantelleria.

5. The elite wing of Bangladesh police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a former cleric and Chairman of ‘Ehsan Group Pirojpur-Bangladesh’ Ragib Hasan for defrauding people worth Tk 17,000 crore.

6. Pakistan International Airlines to resume flights from Islamabad to Kabul next week, becoming the first foreign commercial service since the Taliban seized power last month.

7. Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Weligamage Don Lakshman said he would step down next week at a time when the South Asian island nation’s weak foreign exchange reserves have limited its ability to import goods and raised the risk of default.

8. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) lifts restrictions on entry for fully vaccinated residents;

9. A day after Pakistan announced economic plans for Afghanistan with an intention to control the Afghan economy, it has now reportedly also taken the country’s important data in the form of classified documents
