Morocco earthquake: Death toll crosses 2000, three days of mourning declared
After the magnitude 6.8 earthquake, which claimed the lives of more than 2,012 people and injured 2,059 others while also leaving many homeless, authorities on Saturday proclaimed three days of national mourning in the country.

According to a statement from the military, King Mohammed VI of Morocco directed the armed forces to deploy specialized search and rescue teams and a surgical field hospital.

Historic structures in Marrakesh, the closest city to the epicentre, were damaged by the earthquake that shook Morocco’s High Atlas mountains late on Friday night, but the majority of casualties were recorded in mountainous regions to the south in the Al-Haouz and Taroudant provinces

5. The president and CEO of the US -India strategic partnership forum Dr. Mukesh Aghi told the New Delhi Declaration adopted at the G20 Summit is a “success story” for India, which has sent out a message that it has arrived as a rising global power.

6. Spouses of various world leaders attending the G20 Summit in New Delhi were treated to a special lunch at Jaipur House on Saturday, following which they were given a guided tour of an exhibition of culturally-rich artefacts at NGMA. The group was served millet-based dishes and they also sampled some street food.

7. 🇹🇷Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan backed India as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and proposed a ‘rotational’ membership mechanism. Addressing the media after the G20 Summit on Sunday.

8. 🇷🇺Russia and the Western powers on Sunday claimed vindication of each other’s respective positions on the 🇺🇦Ukraine crisis at the G20 Summit a day after the grouping under India’s presidency unveiled a declaration with consensus that avoided condemning Moscow for its invasion of the eastern European country.

9. India is an ‘extraordinarily important’ economy and an ‘important partner’ of Canada in a range of sectors including fighting climate change and creating economic growth, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

10. Amid the G20 Summit, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty paid a visit to the Akshardham in the national capital on Sunday.

1. MALDIVES🇲🇻 heads for a run-off vote after President Ibrahim Solih and the opposition candidate Mohammed Muizzu could not cross the 50% mark in the first round of the Presidential elections. President Solih will now face his main rival in a run-off on the 30th of this month to choose the country’s fifth freely elected president since Maldives became a multiparty democracy in 2008.

2. Survivors of Morocco’s deadliest earthquake struggled to find food and water today, as the search for the missing in remote villages continued and the death toll of over 2,000 is likely to go up.
