1. PM Modi congratulated Elizabeth Truss on assuming the office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Saturday.

In a telephonic conversation, both the leaders committed to further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and UK.

The two leaders discussed various issues of bilateral interest including the progress in the implementation of the Roadmap 2030, ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations, defence and security cooperation, and the people-to-people ties between both countries.

2. The Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, fruitful discussions was held over the course of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Ministerial (IPEF)meeting in Los Angeles. He said the discussions aimed at bringing together a group of like minded, rules-based, transparent countries with a shared interest in an open Indo-Pacific region.

3. Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakashi Lekhi inaugurated an exhibition of paintings of renowned artist Rodolfo Vega Oviedo of El Salvador at IGNCA Gallery in New Delhi.

The exhibition has been organized by Indian Council of Cultural Relations, ICCR and the Embassy of the Republic of El Salvador in collaboration with the IGNCA.

1. Charles III has been formally proclaimed as King of the United Kingdom at St James’s Palace. He is now the head of State and with seamless and symbolic transfer from one reign to the next, with oaths and signatures.

2. King Charles III was proclaimed the new monarch of Canada in a formal ceremony in Ottawa on Saturday. The ceremony took place at the official residence of Canada’s Governor General. Charles III automatically became the king of the United Kingdom (UK) and 14 other Commonwealth realms, including Canada, upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday.

3. Family Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will be held on September 19 (Monday) at London’s Westminster Abbey, Britain’s Royal Family announced on Saturday. It’ll be held at 1100 hours BST (3.30 pm IST). “Prior to the State Funeral, The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects,” said the Royals in a statement.

4. Russia’s Defense Ministry on Saturday announced it will pull back troops from areas in east Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, where a Kyiv-based counteroffensive has made significant progress.

5. The US on Saturday announced $40 million aid to Sri Lanka to help the country procure key agricultural inputs ahead of the next cultivation season. USAID Administrator Samantha Power is presently visiting the country.

6. Taliban authorities on Saturday closed girls schools (above sixth grade) in Afghanistan’s Paktia province, the Associated Press news agency reported quoting witnesses. Earlier this month, four girls schools in the province’s capital, Gardez, and one in Samkani district began operating without permission from the Taliban Education Ministry. All these newly opened schools were closed on Saturday.
