Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The Heads of the National Security Councils of seven nations, who are in Delhi for the Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan hosted by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval collectively called on PM Modi after the completion of the Dialogue.

2. PM Modi emphasised four aspects that countries in the region would need to focus on, in the context of Afghanistan, the need for an inclusive government, a zero-tolerance stance about Afghan territory being used by terrorist groups, a strategy to counter trafficking of drugs and arms from Afghanistan, and addressing the increasingly critical humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

3. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday held talks with Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf in New Delhi. Dr. Nayef is on a two-day official visit to India.

4. IND-USA
USA has joined the International Solar Alliance ISA as a member country. It becomes the 101st country to sign the framework agreement of the ISA to catalyze global energy transition through a solar-led approach. US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry today announced the decision at COP26 in Glasgow.

5. Director-General of ISA, Dr. Ajay Mathur said, the US’ endorsement of ISA’s framework and approach is a heartening development and demonstrating that nations across the world are recognizing the economic and climate mitigating value of solar, as well as this energy source’s potential as a catalyst for global energy transition.

6. CHINA on 10 Nov said it is ‘open’ for talks with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to discuss his ‘future’ but not any issues related to Tibet.

🌎WORLD NEWS🌍

1. MYANMAR
Myanmar’s junta has charged a US journalist detained since May with sedition and terrorism. The maximum sentence under sedition and terrorism may carry life imprisonment. Danny Fenster, who was arrested as he tried to leave the country in May, was charged under Anti-Terror and Sedition Laws. The trial is scheduled to begin on 16th of November.

2. Bangladesh and France share vision for a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific region based on international law- Joint Statement.

3. Bangladesh and France also decided to step up the security component of their partnership especially in the area of training. They also expressed commitment to step up cooperation in the area of defence equipment and potential technology transfer.

4. Thailand to offer COVID-19 vaccines to migrant workers.
A Thailand minister said that the country will set aside up to 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for migrant workers. It comes as the Thailand government is planning to allow workers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos to re-enter the country amid a labour shortage.
The Labor Ministry estimates there is an immediate demand for 420,000 migrant workers in Thailand.
