1. Xi Jinping elected as Chinese President for third time. He has also been re-appointed as the head of national Central Military Commission.

2. Bangladesh: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conferred the National Film Awards 2021 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on Thursday. The awards were distributed to winners in 27 categories.

3. Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed Friday to reestablish diplomatic relations and reopen embassies after seven years of tensions. The major diplomatic breakthrough negotiated with China lowers the chance of armed conflict between the Mideast rivals — both directly and in proxy conflicts around the region.

4. Arun Subramanian, an attorney, has been appointed as the first Indian American judge of the Manhattan Federal District Court in New York.

5. Indonesia is all set to move its capital from Jakarta to Borneo over environmental issues such as being congested, sinking into seawater, and being prone to earthquakes.

Jakarta, home to 10 million people has been described as the world’s most rapidly sinking city which is estimated to be completely submerged by 2050.

6. Prisoners serving life sentences in the UK can be banned from getting married under the new legislation.
