1. After Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams, Sirisha Bandla will become the third Indian-origin woman to fly into space. Sirisha Bandla, a 34-year-old aeronautical engineer, is set to become the third Indian-origin woman to head to space when she flies as part of Virgin Galactic’s first fully crewed flight test on 11 Jul (Sunday).
Bandla, who was born in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh and brought up in Houston, Texas, will join Sir Richard Branson, the company’s billionaire founder, and five others on board Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo Unity to make a journey to the edge of space from New Mexico.
2. PM Modi spoke with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday and noted that the Indo-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership can contribute to promoting regional stability as both nations share a similar vision of an open, inclusive, peaceful and rules-based Indian Ocean region.

1. US President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021.
2. The Taliban claimed on 09 Jul (Friday) that they now control 85 per cent of Afghanistan’s territory amid a surge in wins on the ground and as American troops complete their pullout.
3. The Taliban has said it sees China as a “friend” of Afghanistan & assured Beijing that it would not host Uyghur Islamic militants from the volatile Xinjiang province, which is a major worry for the Chinese govt, according to a media report. China has already evacuated 210 of its nationals from Afghanistan by a chartered flight this week.
