The Middle-East trade-tech corridor will bring India and Europe close via Arabia. The key players in conceiving and executing the project have been India, UAE, US, Saudi Arabia and European powers like France, Germany and Italy. Conceived as an ambitious project quietly by India and close ally UAE two and a half years ago, the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor was announced by a galaxy of leaders on the side-lines of G-20 summit with support from US led Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment

1. The G20 summit on 9th September 2023 witnessed the announcement of an ambitious project which will connect India to Europe via Middle East.

2. On the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, the Prime Minister Modi held bilateral meetings with United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida.

3. India’s Role in Conjunction with G20 Critical for Path to COP28, Says Director-General Majid Al-Suwaidi. UAE’s Majid Al-Suwaidi also highlights India’s importance as global voice and commends strong relationship between UAE and India

4. The African Union became a permanent member of the G20 on 9 September 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the Head of the African Union, Azali Assoumani, to take his seat as a permanent member of the G20 as the first session of the G20 Summit got underway in New Delhi.

5. INDIA-EUROPE RAIL, POWER, HYDROGEN LINK TO BEAT 🇨🇳CHINA : India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the European Union, unveiled an ambitious plans to create a modern-day Spice Route linking Europe, West Asia and India, that could rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

6. India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday talked about the New Delhi G20 Leadership Declaration that called upon for peace in Ukraine.

While the adoption of the declaration was hailed as something with ‘100% consensus’, and ‘historic’, it also earned criticism for being silent on Russia, and for talking about war ‘in Ukraine’ instead of war ‘against Ukraine’.

Jaishankar while responding to a question on the change in language referring to the Ukraine conflict in the New Delhi Declaration from the G20 position in the Bali document, said, “Regarding the change in language on the Russia-Ukraine conflict from the Bali Declaration – Bali was Bali, New Delhi is Delhi. Many things have happened since the Bali Declaration.”

1. The 6.8-magnitude quake was the biggest to hit Morocco in 120 years, most damage occurred outside of cities and towns. At least 1,305 people died in the quake, mostly in Marrakech and five provinces near the epicenter.

4. Russia sticks to demands on Black Sea grain deal: Sticking to its original demands, Russia on Saturday mentioned that its demands need no interpretation and Russia maintains its clear and consistent position.

5. Russia is holding local elections in occupied parts of Ukraine that Moscow annexed a year ago. Russia holds partial control.

6. Hong Kong and southern Chinese cities are battling widespread flooding as the region experiences some of its heaviest rainfall.

7. A report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) highlights the link between climate change, heatwaves, wildfires, and rising air pollution, including ozone.

8. NASA announced the successful completion of its Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) aboard the Perseverance Mars Rover. MOXIE’s success marks a significant step toward enabling astronauts to “live off the land” on Mars by producing their own oxygen and rocket propellant, supporting long-term exploration and sustainability on the Red Planet.
