1. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that India and Tanzania have started trade settlements in local currencies and this new initiative will help in promoting commerce between the two countries. EAM Jaishankar stressed on frequent exchanges of business delegations to promote economic cooperation between the two countries

2. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh reached Kuala Lumpur on 9th July 2023, Sunday on a three-day official visit to Malaysia with a focus on further consolidating bilateral defence cooperation and Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

3. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will embark on a visit to the United Kingdom (UK) on 9th July 2023 till the 11th of this month. The two-day visit will focus on the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between India and the UK.

4. Karnataka: 3rd G20 CWG meeting in Hampi set to begin on July 10.

5. A video purportedly showing Khalistan supporters setting an Indian national flag on fire during an anti-India protest in Canada’s Vancouver has surfaced.

Earlier, Khalistan supporters were seen disrespecting the Tricolour with shoes outside the Indian consulate in Toronto.

1. In Latvia, longest-serving Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics became the first openly gay head of state in the European Union(EU). Rinkevics sworn in as the country’s new President who has pledged to fight for inclusion and equality. The EU has had openly gay heads of governments before, but never a gay head of state.

2. Dutch coalition government collapses in migration row. The Dutch government has collapsed because of a disagreement between coalition parties over asylum policies, Prime Minister Mark Rutte has said.

3. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed “brave” Ukraine on the 500th day of Russia’s invasion on Saturday, as the war’s toll mounted with eight deaths reported in Russian rocket fire.

4. Syria revokes BBC media accreditation for ‘misleading reports. In Syria, the government has cancelled the BBC’s media accreditation over what it called biased and misleading reports.

5. Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Al Ghais, has disclosed that OPEC is actively considering expanding its membership by engaging in consultations with Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Brunei, and Mexico.

6. At least one person has died and 10 others have been reported missing after a boat carrying them to Italy sunk off Tunisia’s coast. Tunisia’s coastguard rescued 11 people from the boat, which set off from Zarzis.

7. An Islamic State leader named Usamah al-Muhajir was killed in a US drone strike in Syria’s Aleppo region, the US Defense Department said.

8. MISS NETHERLANDS:
Rikkie Valerie Kollé, a model of Moluccan and Dutch descent, has become the first-ever transgender to be crowned Miss Netherlands.

9. Church of England (C of E) will work towards drafting pastoral guidance and other material needed to allow same-sex couples to receive blessings from priests over the next few months.
