Over 500 Killed As Israel-Palestine War Escalates, Residents Flee Homes
Fighting between Israeli forces and the Palestinian group Hamas intensified today, with more than 500 killed on both sides after an attack on Israel prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to warn they were “embarking on long and difficult war”.
The conflict’s bloodiest escalation in decades saw Hamas carry out a massive rocket barrage and ground, air and sea offensive, that Israel’s army, said had killed more than 300 Israelis and wounded 1,000. Gaza officials said intense Israeli air strikes on the coastal enclave had brought the Palestinian death count to at least 232, with nearly 1,700 wounded.

1. The Israel-Palestine conflict has escalated with the armed wing of Hamas launching “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” firing over 5,000 rockets into Israel.
(b) Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, condemned Hamas’s actions as a grave mistake and confirmed that Israeli troops were engaged in defending the country at various locations. The IDF declared a state of readiness for war, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by Hamas militants.
(c) Israeli Air Force targets militant outfits in Gaza. Israel declared a “State of War” after Palestinian militants launched a major attack, firing more than 5,000 rockets from multiple locations in Gaza.
WHY DID HAMAS LAUNCH A SURPRISE ATTACK ON ISRAEL?
Just last week, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said Gaza, the tiny Palestinian enclave on the Mediterranean coast that has been under Israeli and Egyptian blockade for over 16 years, was in a state of “stable instability”.
Dozens of Hamas militants, using motorcycles, pickup trucks, boats, paragliders and mid-range rockets, launched a highly coordinated attack, infiltrating Israeli cities, hitting military bases and killing and taking hostage soldiers and civilians.
Israeli officials say at least 300 people were killed and hundreds of others injured.
