1. The annual meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission (PIC) will take place in Pakistan from 1st to 3rd March, with an Indian delegation led by India’s Indus Commissioner, P.K. Saxena, due to visit the country. According to sources, the delegation is expected to leave around February 28th and return on March 4th. This will be the 117th meeting of the commission led by the commissioners from both sides.

2. The demise of singing legend Lata Mangeshkar on February 6. It was announced that the National Flag will also be at half-mast as a mark of respect. Not only in the country, Indians elsewhere are also mourning the loss of the queen of melody. The National Flag is flying at half-mast at the Embassy of India in Washington DC as a mark of respect. So is the Tricolour at the the Indian Pavilion in Dubai Expo in the UAE.

3. A verified Facebook handle of KFC Pakistan posted a picture message which has the words ‘KASHMIR BELONGS TO THE KASHMIRIS’ in bright red letters. This is sure to drag the brand in a controversy like Hyundai and Kia. Just over an hour after the controversial post was deleted from KFC Pakistan’s Facebook page, KFC India took to Twitter issuing an apology over the controversy. Without explicitly naming its FB handle in Pakistan, KFC India said ‘We honour and respect India”.

4. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday held “productive” talks with his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart GL Peiris, focusing on steps to enhance Colombo’s energy security, boost bilateral trade and investment, and the contentious fishermen issue.The talks came days after India extended a USD 500 million credit line to Sri Lanka to help it purchase petroleum products.

1. Cyclone Batsirai kills at least 20, displaces thousands in Madagascar
At least 20 people were killed and over 50,000 were displaced in Madagascar as Cyclone Batsirai ravaged the nation throughout the weekend.

2. No elections in Libya in 2022, Parliament to choose new PM on Feb 10. On the other hand, Government of National Unity claimed legitimacy and said it has no intention to step aside. Meanwhile, leading contenders for PM’s post including former Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha will appear before Parliament to seek support this week.

3. South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) on Monday approved the use of China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.
